Nadine Sutherland

Nadine Sutherland OD from child-star to music maven, international performer extraordinaire and award- winning actress; with a catalogue built over four and a half decades.
Sutherland made her stage debut, in 1979, as the first winner of Jamaica’s popular “Tastee Talent Contest”. Which led to Robert Nesta ‘Bob’ Marley signing her to his Tuff Gong label. Described as Reggae’s “Teen Queen”, with hits including “Starvation” and “Until”, she also provided background vocals for Peter Tosh’s Grammy awarded album ‘No Nuclear War.
Considered by fans and critics alike, the premier Jamaican female vocalist of her generation, Nadine garnered international success for the dancehall anthem “Action” with ‘Terror fabulous’, and “Anything for You” with Canadian artiste, ‘Snow’.
The singer, songwriter, producer was dominant in the dancehall throughout the 90s, collaborating on numerous hit songs. In 2016, influenced by cultural Icon professor Rex Nettleford, Nadine completed her Master of Arts in Cultural studies at the University of the West Indies. Nadine tours consistently and features on the top Reggae shows across the globe. She was conferred with the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer by the Jamaican Government in October 2024, for her significant contribution to the development of Jamaican Music. As she closed out her 45 year in the music industry, Nadine Sutherland won the Best Short Film Award at the Essence Film Festival in New Orleans for her acting debut in the film Someone Loves You, marking a major win for her first acting role in a film celebrating Caribbean stories in America.
The Film was directed and produced by Amanda Mandii and Victoria Perry. Sutherland’s latest project is a feel-good reggae groove “Niceness” on Dangerzone’s Jam Again rhythm.
